For years I've been writing or collecting essays, and other bits and pieces of useful writing about LARP and Interactive Drama, its production, and history. I thought it was time to put them together in a systematic way so that they'd be useful to others. There are other really good collections of material, and I'll try and have links to the best of those, though for a really exhaustive list of links, you should go to the LARPA Website!

Essays and Theory Writing

My Essays

Impact of Relationships on Games - my first overseas publication, in "Lifelike" the very beautiful hardcover book for Knudepunkt 2007.   This essay was written for a feature on the social side of roleplay and features a discussion of the impact of "roleplay" relationships on "real world" relationships.

Guide to Writing Short Theatre Style LARP - Written at the request of convention LARP organizers as a short guide to hit the high points of how to prepare a LARP that can run for a festival crowd in under three page. Has some good general tips on games.

Theatre Style Live Roleplaying - a lengthy essay on how to construct, and run a Theatre Style LARP, with a lot of advice that is relevant to other styles. Right now the centerpiece of this little site.

A Field Guide to the Weasels
- How things Get into Game when the GMs didn't want them there, and what to do to Contain them.

Every Once in a While Every GM needs to Play - but there's no reason not to do it in style. My kit for mid 20th century - ARC Horror.

The Coming Crisis in Casting in Theatre Style Campaign LARP - an analysis of the history of casting in Theatre Style Campaign games, along with an assessment of its current state, problems, and what can be done to improve it. [Word] [HTML]
